Where to start when choosing curtains:
Set aside style considerations for a moment function comes first and will limit your curtain choices, in a good way. Lined curtains provide privacy and darkness. If the curtains are purely decorative or you do not mind light filtering through then unlined curtains will work. Lined curtains are more expensive but it has its advantage as it protects the fabric from the sun and gives the fabric longevity. Lining also adds heft and body which also allows fabric to be more drape-able and to fall more luxuriously.
You can do many things to make a room stylish, you can combine window treatments like draperies and top treatments with shades for example Roman blinds that compliment the drapes. This is a popular way to create a dual function window treatment. If the window doesn’t need to be closed for privacy but rather just needs softness, then Dummy drapes and shades are an option that also use less fabric and just allows the window to appear as though the shades and drapes are open.
Curtain Shades
Shades are as versatile in use as they are in style. They can be raised and lowered to provide privacy, block light and conserve energy. There are many styles of shades but at Creators Studio we speciailise in Roman blinds that are plain, scalloped, arched, curved or bordered.
The drapes that we offer are Pinch Pleat, rod pocket, eyelet, wave, tab top, box, inverted etc . We do not restrict the customer to these styles as getting creative with ideas is always an option. As long as the idea and design can support functionality.
The Mood of the room will determine the texture of the fabric. Use heavy silks and velvets in a more formal space and for a more casual feel consider using cottons and linens. Natural fabric blends are not as durable so opt for a polyester blend.
Color
When choosing the color of the fabric you will need to decide whether you want something that blends in with the walls or pops out as a focal point. This is all a matter of personal preference.
When blending the colour with the room choose a colour that is the same as the paint on the walls and make it a few shades darker. You can also choose a non dominant subtle colour in the room.
A soft shade from the rug or wallpaper, per say. Colored curtains that are unlined will infuse the room when the sun shines through. Orange can be vibrant, while pink can be positive and cheerful and blue calming.
Prints And Patterns
When curtain manufacturing, the rule of thumb is that if you have very patterned furniture and bedding go for a plain or solid curtain.
If you want to be stylish and energetic but subtle go for a small print like a dot,check or paisley or a neutral print (the size can vary if it is neutral).
From a distance it will appear to be a texture. Bold prints are more daring but can look very striking if there is a relation to the rest of the décor.
Curtain Length
Floor-length is the way to go, unless there’s an object or a deep sill in the way.
Shorter curtains are a great approach for café curtains (short panels that cover only the lower portion of a window and hit the sill), which work well in spots like the kitchen and bathroom, where long drapes aren’t practical.
Just Hitting the Floor
This look is classic and tailored; it makes sense if you’ll be opening and closing the curtains a lot (they’ll easily fall back into place every time you move them). The fabric should just touch the floor or hover a few cm above the floor.
Breaking Slightly and pooling at the Floor
Panels that extend onto the floor by 2-4 cm are the most stylish right now. They’re more relaxed than those that graze the floor , but they still feel tailored. If you have uneven floors or are worried about precise measuring, this style is more forgiving. In formal rooms, an exaggerated 12-15 cm or so of fabric pooling on the floor—can look romantic but is also high-maintenance; curtains need re-fluffing every time you vacuum wash the floor or the cat lies on them.
